A family of three who live in an uncompleted building at Bulemi in the Weija Gbawe municipality of the Greater Accra Region have been cooking with urine and faeces for over 5- years.
3news’ Akua Sarpomaa visited the family on March 20.
She found that the mother, Leticia Okine, adds faecal matter and urine to whatever food they cook to make it “healthier and tasty.”
According to the mother “all the bottles here contained urine we will need for cooking and also use as pomade”. “We also use the urine to take out any chemical in pure water before we drink.”
“We have only one bottle of faeces for now, we will use it to mix our corn dough for our banku. We put them (faeces and urine) in the bottle and seal them so that no scent will come out,” she added.
A neighbour, Ato Quansah, who is also Chairman of the Landlord’s Association in the area said, “this family has been here for very long time with their father, but I think the father left when the mother started developing some abnormal behavior”.
Mr Quansah therefore called on the relevant authorities to come to their aid.
