A Wa-based journalist working with Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom’s Pupeli FM was severely beaten on the afternoon of Wednesday, June 28, 2017, by angry NPP youth at the Wa Central Market.
Ibrahim Abubakari Wangara, who visited the assembly revenue collectors’ joint at the main entrance of the market after reports that some NPP youth activists tried to seize control as new revenue collectors amid a government change, was slapped for allegedly recording their actions.
“One of them saw me photographing and called me. When I approached, he demanded my phone. When I refused, he started slapping me, so I had no choice but to hand over my phone. He deleted the three photos and video that I had taken, and then they all attacked and beat me,” he recounted.

He disclosed that the youth demand the sacking of all the old revenue collectors and some drivers hired under the previous NDC government, emphasising that it is their government which is now in power and therefore must oversee a transition.
In a related development, the driver of the MCE, whose name was only given as “Ayye” was equally beaten up at the assembly after attempts to confront the thugs over their actions.

Meanwhile, Upper West Regional Police Commander, ACP. Kwadwo Boapea Otchere pledged while condemning the act, assured to increase security to prevent clashes between party members and revenue staff.
