Involve ‘Gen Z’ in Heritage Month activities – Ephraim Amu’s daughter

Misonu Amu, daughter of renowned Ghanaian composer Ephraim Amu, has urged Channel One TV and Citi FM to deepen youth participation in activities marking Heritage Month, stressing the need to reconnect young people with Ghanaian culture.

Speaking at the launch of the Heritage Month celebration on Wednesday, February 25, she said many young Ghanaians are gradually losing touch with their cultural roots due to limited exposure to traditional events and cultural education.
According to her, increasing youth involvement in such programmes would serve as an important educational tool, helping them better understand and appreciate Ghana’s traditions.

She noted that deliberate efforts must be made to actively engage the younger generation, particularly Gen Z, who she believes are at risk of cultural disconnection.
“The event tells us about our culture. There are a lot of people who are not familiar with their culture, the Ghanaians themselves, especially the Gen Z. I think it is a way of educating the youth to know about our culture. People hear about Ghana.

“We should promote our own, so that when people come in, they get to know us more. You should involve a lot of the youth. This was by invitation, but I think they should focus more on the youth because they are losing their culture,” she stated.
She also commended the stations for sustaining the initiative over the years and encouraged them to continue using their platforms to project Ghanaian culture to the world.
