Prior to the coming of J.A. Kufuor when residents of the Upper West Region were crying over the unmotorable state of the Wa-Bole-Bamboi road, the NDC in the region were rather shifting the blame on their colleagues in the Northern Region citing the location of the stretch in that region accusing their colleagues from that region for rather sabotaging its construction.
The counter argument people often put before them then was that were they not in the same government with those counterparts from the Northern Region?
What was their use in the government of the day then, if they could not lobby to have the road done?
Was lobbying no more in the dictionary of that NDC government for them to benefit from?
But when the NPP took the reigns of governance led by President J. A. Kufuor, they took it upon themselves to fix the road for us which resulted in winning the hearts of many in the region to swift their political leanings for good.
Indeed, many political observers and connoisseurs in the region attributed the construction of that all-important road that was very dear in the heart of the people as one crucial move that contributed to the rise of the Elephant family in the region which was once less attractive to many of the region in the 90s.
Today, the road is again in a very terrible state that words cannot be used to describe hence, requiring urgent attention before it escalates to another level.
But as to whether something will be done about it given the remaining days of this government remains to be seen.
And more importantly, as to whether the people can trust the word of the NDC to have it constructed in the event they happen to win power in the upcoming elections due to their past record on the stretch is also another multimillion Cedi question requiring an answer.
And as expected the NDC communicators are also wading into calls to have the deplorable road fixed to bring relief to the people.
One could have challenged them for lacking the moral authority to do so but alas! They are also citizens, not spectators and they also pay tax as well.
His Majesty, Naa Fuseini Pelpuo IV, the Overlord of the Waala Traditional Area, recently made an appeal to the First Gentleman of the Land during a courtesy call on his Highness to try and fix the road as a parting gift to the people.
Well, with just about 6months to elections, we will keep our fingers crossed to see what comes out of this plea to the government.
The deplorable nature of the road has now automatically extended the traveling hours on that stretch from what it hitherto was.
The Wenchi-Bamboi-Wa road is the main road that links that part of the country to the Southern sector of the country as well as through to Burkina Faso.
