The Upper West Regional Minister Stephen Yakubu has called for calm in Yayuoyiri a farming settlement in the Wa East District of the Upper West Region following a land/Chieftaincy dispute that injured five and claimed one life.
The Regional Minister visited the community on Monday, July 1 2024 to sympathize with the diseased family and urge them to remain calm while the Ghana police service investigates the matter, assuring them that the perpetrators of the crime will be held responsible.
He admonishes the people of the Community to cooperate with the security service to enable them to resolve the problem once and for all.
According to the Chairman of the Regional Security Council, the enemy they should be fighting is poverty and not killing each other. Indicating that there are a lot of problems they should have been fighting the government to fix for them.
“On our way here we pass through their road and that is what you should be fighting for. I have realized that they don’t have electricity here, you should be fighting for electricity, water, schools, and clinics not killing one another” He advised.
Meanwhile, the Honourable Regional Minister lauded the prompt action of the District Chief Executive of the Wa East Dr. Sulemani Kandia Ewurah Mahama in restoring calm in the Community.
On his part, the father of the deceased, Umari Hamidu narrates how three gunmen entered their compound, murdered his son Samsondeen Hamidu, and beat him to a pulp.
Umari further indicated that, as he was been rushed for medical attention four other persons were also wounded and currently on admission.
He revealed that their houses had been burnt down, This he said happened while everyone on their side was running for their lives.
