The Upper West Regional Minister, Stephen Yakubu has cut sod for one hundred and ten boreholes to be sunk in the upper West region.
The one hundred and ten boreholes were expected to be spread across the region, ten each for the eleven districts.
In the Wa Municipal, some of the beneficiary communities include jinkpang, sing, polee, and dapuaha among others.
At the jinkpan community where a symbolic sod was cut, the Parliamentary candidate for the Wa Central constituency, Hajia Humu Awudu expressed gratitude to the people for voting her in the last elections even though she did not win.
According to her, she lobbied the government to drill the boreholes for them so that they will not travel longer distances in search of water.
The two times parliamentary candidate was aware that it was the same community folks who could sell her political ideas to their peers.
To this end Hajia Humu made a promise to the people that she will make sure they get their fair share of development.
She was emphatic that these boreholes given to them were definitely not the end of good things that were coming their way.
She intimated that the projects were development drive that was embarked by the vice president Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
The CEO and owner of Tungsung FM admonished the people to take good care of the boreholes so that the women do not go back to suffer for water when the boreholes break down.
She pleaded with them to continue to support her to win the Wa Central parliamentary seat in order for them to enjoy the good things in the NPP.
Turning the valve to commence the Common Fund funded project, the Upper West Regional minister enumerated the projects that government is providing the people of the upper west region.
He disclosed that the social cohesion (SOCO) projects dotted across the region were at various stages of completion.
He reiterated the promise of the president, Nana Akuffo Addo to give life to the people, since water was life.
The Minister explained that some of the boreholes will be mechanized on need basis, clarifying that areas without electricity will be mechanized.
The new Upper West Minister added that where there is electricity and the ability to pay bills will be mechanized depending the advice from the district/municipal assembly.
Rif Connac Limited is the contractor that was engaged to drill the total of 110 boreholes. Speaking to the media, the Project Director, Maxwell Engamaaye assured that the project will be completed in three months.
He however fell short of furnishing the media with the cost of the project, saying that he could not make that public.
