Ghana coach Otto Addo has admitted that the Black Stars were poor in the first half against the Central African Republic (CAR) and has taken responsibility for the team’s struggles.
Jordan Ayew put Ghana ahead with an early penalty, but the Black Stars trailed 2-1 at halftime after the visitors capitalized on defensive weaknesses.
Ayew netted twice more in the second half, securing a hat-trick, and Ghana eventually claimed a 4-3 victory, moving to the top of Group I in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Louis Mafouta’s treble for CAR was in vain.
“We had problems in the first half controlling the ball and finding solutions upfront. I take the blame,” Addo said in the post-match press conference. “Maybe I wanted us to do too much, especially given the few days of training we had. I adjusted in the second half, and we deserved to win.”
The win extends Ghana’s unbeaten run at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, where the Black Stars have been undefeated since 2000. Otto Addo also is unbeaten in his first two competitive games since returning to the top job.
Meanwhile, Jordan Ayew has been in exceptional form, scoring seven goals in his last five games for the Black Stars. His contributions have been crucial as Ghana pushes for a fifth World Cup appearance in six attempts.
Ghana will not be in World Cup qualification action until next March when they take on Chad and Madagascar, games they are expected to win to remain in strong contention to finish top of their group and qualify for the tournament co-hosted by the USA, Mexico, and Canada.
