The Overlord of the Waala Traditional Council, Naa Fusieni Seidu Pelpuo IV has called on the people of the Upper West Region to eschew bush burning to reap the full benefits of the Government Green Ghana Agenda.
Katua Naa Osman K. Salia who spoke on behalf of the Wa Naa to mark this year’s Green Ghana Day celebration at the forecourt of the Wa Senior High School in the Upper West Region, said tree planting is not an event but a process of nurturing it to grow.
The Overlord further indicated that, in consultation with the traditional council they will task every paramount Chief in the area to plant at least 2 acres of trees while urging all to take tree planting very seriously.

On his part, the Upper West Regional Manager for the Forest Service Division, Godfred Quashigah revealed that, since the inception of the Green Ghana Day over 1.3 million trees have been distributed and planted in the Upper West Region, with a survival rate of over 60 to 70%.
He noted that, out of the National target of planting 10 million trees, the region targets planting of 600,000 trees of which 534,000 tree seedlings have been distributed as of the morning of Friday, June 7, 2024.

Meanwhile, the Chief Director of Upper West Regional Coordinating Council Peter Maala representative of the Regional Minister said the Green Ghana Day is a flagship program introduced by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, aimed at afforestation and restoration of the country’s degreded landscape and to inculcate in all youth the need to plant and nurture trees and to build resilience against climate change.
The 2024 Green Ghana Day is celebrated under the theme: “GROWING FOR A GREENER TOMORROW “.
