The Upper West Regional Minister, Stephen Yakubu, on August 19, 2024, handed over some machines under the District Roads Improvement Program (DRIP) to the districts while waiting for the full complement to arrive.
He emphasized that the DRIP initiative was conceived by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo and implemented. This, he said will help execute the year of roads.
“I just want to make it very clear, I know that the opposition party is going around saying things about this DRIP, it is an initiative by the president of the country. It has nothing to do with any opposition leader because, in Ghana, our problem is that when you think of any good thing, and you implement it, then you see the opposition coming to take credit for it. He stressed.
Speaking at a brief ceremony to hand over the machines to the eleven assemblies in the Upper Region, the Minister mentioned that the region will receive 11 Tipper tracks, 11 Backhoe, 11 Water tankers, 11Motor graders, 11 Pickups, 6 wheel loaders, 3 Bulldozer, 3 low-beds, 11 Rollers, concrete mixtures, we’re going to have 22.
According to Stephen Yakubu, the Upper West Region will receive a total of 100 machines, which will be distributed to the various assemblies to begin work immediately to improve the bad roads in the Region.
On behalf of the supplier J. A Plant Pool, a subsidiary of the Jospong Group, the Acting Regional Coordinator for DRIP Kuudigr K. Venantius said the company will be in charge of the maintenance and supply of spare parts of the machines for two years.
He further revealed that they would organize training on August 21, 2024, for technical personnel in the assemblies to manage the equipment effectively.
Meanwhile, the Wa Municipal Chief Executive Alhaji Issahaku Tahiru Mumin said drowning experience from the past, couple with the management structure that has been put in place, the machines will be used effective, “I’m sure we’re going to get the best out of it”.
