Dr. Hilla Limann Technical University (DHLTU) has launched an endowment fund to supplement government efforts and support needy but brilliant students.
According to the Chairman of the endowment fund implementation Committee, Dr.Solomon Dansieh, the main source of funding for the infant University is the government, noting that, due to the establishment of more educational institutions the Getfund budget has been stretched very thin, therefore, the need for the University to establish an Endowment fund to complement government support.
The DHLTU Endowment Fund was launched during the 5th Congregation on May 18, 2024, at the forecourt of the Technical University’s library.
Dr. Dansieh opined that even before the visit of the Ghana Tertiary Education Council (GTEC) for a cyclical review, the management of the University saw the need to form a committee to come out with a policy and the committee came out with DHLTU Endowment Fund policy and further established an implementation committee.
“I believe that each lecturer here, each worker of this institution has even had an experience of a student knocking on your door just on the day of examination to shed tears and to tell you that they have been sacked from the exams hall for non-payment of school fees and I know some of you had to part with various sums of money to support such students, so we are establishing this fund to take care of brilliant but needy students and to support the institution enhance the government support”. This was after the chairman shared his personal experience with a needy student.
Furthermore, Dr Solomon Dansieh used the opportunity to appeal to the DHLTU community and the general public to contribute to support the fund to cater for the numerous challenges of the young University.
As the saying goes “Charity begins at home” The senior Management members donated Ghc5000 cash in support of the fund, and the junior staff promised to contribute their quota to the fund.
Meanwhile, the Vice-chancellor of DHLTU Prof Elias N.k Sowley said the Endowment Fund aims at providing additional funds to supplement the government’s effort to ensure that the University improves upon the delivery of its mandate and to support achieve its vision of becoming a world-class research-intensive University.
