A teacher at Nyinahin Catholic Senior High School in the Ashanti Region has been arrested following the circulation of a video on social media showing him allegedly assaulting a female student on campus.
The arrest was confirmed by the Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Daniel Fenyi, in a Facebook post on Tuesday, June 9, 2026.
“The Nyinahin Catholic SHS teacher seen in the viral video fighting a female student has been arrested! The regional education directorate is investigating the matter. Full report to be submitted to HQ,” Fenyi wrote.
The incident sparked widespread public outrage after footage shared on social media appeared to show the teacher physically confronting the student while onlookers pleaded with him to stop.
In the video, the teacher is seen repeatedly striking the student before lifting and throwing her to the ground. Witnesses can be heard urging him to remember that the student was a girl and to stop the assault. The teacher, who appeared visibly agitated, responded by asking, “Is she aware she is a lady?”
The circumstances that led to the confrontation have not been disclosed by school authorities or the Ghana Education Service.
GES confirmed that the regional education directorate has launched a full investigation into the incident and is expected to submit a comprehensive report to its headquarters.
The arrest has been met with widespread calls from the public for accountability and the protection of students within Ghana’s educational institutions.
Many have also expressed shock that a teacher could subject a female student to such treatment, with several civil society voices calling for swift and decisive action to deter similar conduct in schools.
